Southampton is a maritime city located in Hampshire, on the South coast of England. It is conveniently located for trips to both the Isle of Wight and the New Forest and is in convenient travelling distance from London.
The port of Southampton is the departure point for many major cruise liners and was home to the RMS Titanic prior to her maiden voyage. The city contains the longest surviving section of medieval city wall in the country.
There are two theatres in Southampton, the Mayflower and the Nuffield, putting on a wide range of shows from Shakespeare to musicals. There are also two art galleries in the city centre, the City Art Gallery, containing over 3500 works covering six centuries, and the Bargate Monument Gallery, inside one of the medieval gates to the city.
The city is also home to Southampton FC, who face Oldham at their St Mary’s home on 27th March.
